“I have a serious compulsion to let my imagination run amok on stage and in song. It is like an addiction. So much so that I joke that I need to start a 12 step program called ‘Putting on a Show Anonymous.’ I went from putting on shows in our family basement to putting on shows in a church basement in the East Village (the infamous Club 57) and then graduating to “aboveground” venues worldwide. My shows are a blend of music, monologue, theater, cabaret, rock ‘n’ roll, poetry, satire, dream imagery and a soupçon of stand-up comedy, a quest for fun but with an undercurrent of deep sorrow. Everything I do draws from my Appalachian upbringing in West Virginia as well as an obsession with dreams and the never ending search for cosmic meaning in this mad, mad, mad, mad world.”
